How to care

How often do I water my Hydrangea?

The Hydrangea paniculata is crazy about moist soil. So water regularly! Especially during warm periods. Hydrangeas prefer to get watered a few times a week rather than a little bit every day. Always pour water on the soil and not on the flower. Hot summer days? Water them in the morning or in the evening. At those moments, the plant is at ‘rest’ and absorbs water better.

I guess that my Hydrangea is sick, what to do?

No need for panic. The hydrangea may need to get used to its new environment for the first year. Prune it back between November and April so that you have another chance the following summer. Doesn’t that work either? Stuur ons een berichtje via info@livingcreations.com of Instagram met een aantal foto’s van het probleem.

Does my Hydrangea withstand severe winters?

Absolutely. Our cultivars withstand extreme temperatures. Coping with temperatures falling to -30º. Living Creations Hydrangeas are among the most winter-hardy ones. They grow all over the world and even survive the Siberian winters.

What’s best: growing Hydrangeas in pots or in the ground?

In their natural habitat, Hydrangeas grow in the ground, of course. Their roots can develop freely that way. But don’t worry if you prefer Hydrangeas in containers. Nowadays, we can mimic ideal conditions by giving potted plants the right fertilisers and plenty of water. When choosing a pot, pay attention to the size, it is important that the hydrangea gets enough space.

Which container fits my Hydrangea best?

The plastic Living Creations pot your Hydrangea comes in is a useful tool here. The container should be a little wider than the pot. That will ensure enough loose soil fits around the sides so that the roots can grow and develop. Make sure the new container is 2 to 5 cm higher than the plastic pot as the roots should not emerge above the soil.

How many Hydrangeas per m2?

That depends on the size of the plants. Small cultivars can be planted closer together than larger varieties. It’s not rocket science! Still not 100% sure? The Living Creations labels tell you how many of your particular Hydrangea you can plant per m2. If you keep to those instructions, you’ll have an abundant display of Hydrangeas in your garden. Lost the label? Message Living Creations via Instagram.

How deep should I plant them?

The containers they come in are a useful indicator. Remove a Hydrangea from the pot and place the pot next to the desired spot. Dig a hole that is just a little wider and 2 to 5 cm deeper than the pot. That way, the roots won’t emerge above the ground and there will be enough loose soil all around the plant for the roots to stretch out and develop.

Should I grow my Hydrangea in the sun or shade?

Hydrangeas prefer a sunny or semi-shady spot. That’s how they look the best. Your Hydrangea will flourish in these conditions and the flowers will colour beautifully. Hydrangeas can be placed in the shade but be aware that they will tend to grow towards the light. But be aware that they will tend to grow towards the light. This leads to long branches instead of the compact growth and flowering most people prefer.

When do I have to prune my Hydrangea?

We have a special one there blog written for. You prune the panicle hydrangea once a year. Preferably between November and April.
